2008 “Year of the Dolphin” - Educational Program "The Dolphin Diploma"
The Diploma of Dolphins is a joint initiative of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society-WDCS and Fundación Cethus of Argentina.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), declared 2007 the "Year of the Dolphin", in coordination with international environmental groups and the private sector, with the aim of increase disseminate and raise general public awareness of the threats that these creatures are exposed. Given the success achieved during the past year, the program still continues in 2008.

Within the activities proposed for this year Fundación Cethus and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society - WDCS have developed an educational program with the objective of raising awareness of the threats that these animals suffer.
What is the Dolphin Diploma?
It is simple and fun!
To obtain the Dolphin Diploma, we propose to carry out some school activities that attempt to generate greater awareness about the problems faced by dolphins and whales, and the ecosystems they inhabit.

The proposed activity is the following:
- At a first stage we plan the work of students with the teacher and, for this, we will provide educational material, which may be worked individually or in groups, depending on each level and the teacher’s criteria.
- At a second stage, we suggest that students carry out some activity that they consider useful for cetaceans’ conservation, whose results will be informed to Fundación Cethus and WDCS, who will give a Dolphin Diploma, in which the contribution made by each participant in such activity will be stressed.
There are two educational packages in Spanish, one for children over 11 years old, and another for those between 6 and 10 years old respectively, which can be sent electronically, and includes some ideas for organizing activities.
