When will the time for Change come?
Nowadays, everybody knows that we are witness to environmental changes which are attributed to climate change, and already well known to most of the general public. Trying to understand the reason for this phenomenon involves very complex processes which many people are not familiarized with, but basically they could be summarized and be related to the consequences of our own indifference to the place where we live.
Much has been said about the United Nations Conference on climate change that recently took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has been considered as the most important summit ever held with regard to climate and its problematics, and it is estimated that 15,000 people, from 192 countries, attended this meeting, with the aim of fighting against the causes of climate change and basically reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
For many people the climate change is a palpable and obvious reality, but to others, it does not relate with the activities that humans develop on the Earth. Associated with this global phenomenon, and its consequences, it becomes obvious that there are political, social and, especially, economic issues that set those rich nations and poorest ones at odds.
Whatever the real cause of such changes is, and independently of the concrete results of this summit, it would be important to think about how are we, as humans, mistreating our planet and all the creatures that inhabit it. Maybe at that point and beyond the results of any scientific study, any political decision, and the willingness of governments to carry it out, all human beings could rethink about the way we want to live and about the use we give to natural resources, especially the non-renewable ones. Perhaps this is the time for the beginning of a change that would be of benefit to all of us in the long run.
