With a very good repercussion, the last 25th and 26th October, Cethus carried out its Cetacean stranding and rescue course which was attended by about 50 persons including students from several faculties of Buenos Aires and Santa Fe, and general public, all of them interested in this problem.
During the 6-hour course, Miguel Iñíguez (researcher and President of Cethus) gave a lecture that dealt with strandings in general and basic steps involved in the rescue of cetaceans and, on the second day, there were lectures about contributions to the conservation and use of samples in reproductive and genetic studies, etc., which were given by Bs. Marta Hevia (Cethus researcher) and Dr. Juan Claver (Professor of the Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias at the Universidad de Buenos Aires).
For us, this activity has been very important, not only because of the good repercussion, but also because this course marks a new stage for Cethus. For many years, our foundation was recognized, in addition to its work on different areas, for conducting periodic training and spreading courses, but for the last couple of years we hadn’t performed any of them. Our intention is to re-establish these activities in order to continue with one of our objectives that is to provide training and education about these animals, while allowing us to generate funds to conduct our researches. In its nearly 20 years, Cethus has survived as an independent NGO and consisted of a relatively low number of persons with a great effort.
Thank you very much to every person who have supported us in this activity!
